Wool CollectionFollowing the same pattern as MP 002, I wanted something similar to a pair of 1960s Naval Sailor pants I received from my great-grandfather: a sleek, wide-leg, well-fitting pair of formal pants that weren’t the generic slack material and shape.
I wanted a simple, clean look for these pants, so to avoid bulk, I stripped the pockets to the bare minimum: two double pockets, one front, one back.
Keeping the garment simple, the smaller details became much more apparent and important. A few double belt loops, a key ring, the button tab, and the contrast stitching became the most evident design features.

wrap skirtAfter a few days of wearing these pants, it became evident that the original pockets weren’t enough to carry all my essentials.
Too fond of the pants to change them, instead of adding a pocket, I added a garment with pockets.
With a large back pocket for my wallet and a smaller internal pocket for items needing to be easily accessible yet concealed, I have exactly enough storage to carry what I need to move through the day.
The wrap skirt also needed to accompany the silhouette of the pants while also being capable of being worn solo.
